LOOK- UK is a national charity for young people with a vision impairment. These are exciting times. We are in the early stages of launching our
mentoring project aimed to support young people with a vision impairment aged 11-29. We are looking for a dynamic person to join our team who will share our passion and help promote this innovative project and help grow our small charity. LOOK-UK has 25 years of experience of supporting young vision impaired people and their families.Job Title: Marketing and communications co-ordinator

Reports to: Line manager
Type of Post: P/T, remote working with the ability to attend team meetings minimum 2 days per month in Hereford, with occasional weekend work

Salary: £24,000.00 pro rata
Hours: 2 days 12 months fixed term contract with a 3 month probation period

Job Description

Marketing and communications co-ordinator
Part Time.

As the Marketing and Communications co-ordinator, you will have responsibility for ensuring that all internal and external communications are presented in a highly professional and “on brand” format. A willingness to be part of a small, ‘hands on’ team is essential. Some key duties and
responsibilities will include:

  • creating and updating content for our website (which is currently in development)
  • generating and updating content for social media
  • delivering bespoke marketing campaigns
  • writing and circulating monthly online newsletter
  • ensuring that all materials adhere to brand identity, including print and exhibition materials
  • creating and editing audio, photographs or videos as required
  • Organising Look’s presence at exhibitions and conferences
  • developing Look’s internal communications strategy.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • ability to take initiative
  • creative flair with exceptional attention to detail
  • an ability to work to deadlines and within budget
  • confident in presenting engaging content and editing volunteer’s content
  • knowledge of wordpress and how to update content, working knowledge of IT platforms such as mail chimp and survey monkey
  • a positive and proactive attitude and willingness to be very ‘hands on’ as part of a small team
  • exceptional communication skills and a confidence to liaise with external clients and stakeholders as required.

 

Essential:

  • Ability to work in a team and work on one’s own initiative
  • Planning and co-ordinating communications strategies
  • Previous role in marketing and communications department
  • Knowledge of word press and other IT platforms such as mail chimp and survey monkey
  • Comfortable in the production of press releases and generating publicity
  • Good writing style and confidence in creating and editing engaging content
  • Confident with creating, managing and scheduling online marketing campaigns across all social media and other online platforms
  • Ability to edit sound and video content
  • Strong confidence with branding
  • Creative and competent with design and desk top publishing
  • Ability to build a strong network and make meaningful connections
  • Ability to work flexibly, under pressure and adapt to change
  • Ability to motivate
  • Excellent written, aural and communications skills
  • Ability to travel as appropriate with occasional overnight stays
  • Strong general numeracy and IT skills

 

Desirable:

  • A general understanding of issues facing young disabled people and their families
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity and equal opportunities
  • Some travel will be necessary, so use of car essential. If you have a disability/vision impairment we can
    explore access to work travel support for you.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and data protection

We are looking for a dynamic person to join our team who will share our passion for this innovative project and help grow our small charity. LOOK-UK has 25 years of experience of supporting young vision impaired people and their families.

Job Title: Project officer for mentoring programme
Reporting to: Line manager

Salary: £22,000 per annum pro rata
Hours: 24 hours per week over three days
Fixed term contract for 12 months
Location: Hereford.

Personality

A self-starter, self-driven with a positive outlook. Experience of delivering and assessing new projects. You will also be a natural forward planner. Mature, credible and comfortable with all
families and professionals. Reliable, tolerant, flexible and determined. Good communicator, able to see things from the other person’s point of view. Keen for new experiences, responsibility and
accountability. Able to get on with others and be a team player.

Key objectives

• To assist with the planing and implementation of all aspects of the online mentoring project and other related events, forums and activities.
• To empower young VI people to get involved and establish networks
• To be an ambassador for Look UK and promote the mentoring programme to young people with a vision impairment and relative organisations.
• To assist in identifying and recruiting young people that could benefit from mentoring.
• To give information about the project to potential participants and efficiently refer people we cannot support to appropriate service providers.
• Be a first point of contact for volunteers, and build and maintain a sense of community amongst project participants, through regular telephone contact, through facilitating skype groups and through social media channels.

Person specification

Essential:
• Experience of working with young people
• Ability to work in a team and work on one’s own initiative
• Experience of facilitating projects, events and discussion
• Ability to motivate, support and manage young people and/or volunteer mentors.
• Ability to carry out appropriate risk assessments
• An understanding of and commitment to diversity and equal opportunities
• You must be an emotionally intelligent person, be a good listener and have empathy
• Willingness and ability to work outside of normal school/college hours on occasion
• Some travel will be necessary, so use of car essential. If you have a disabillity/vision impairment we can explore access to work travel support for you.

Desirable:
• Experience of working on a mentoring programme
• Experience of organising and delivering events
• Good understanding of safeguarding issues
• Understanding of boundary issues within volunteer mentoring programmes.
• A general understanding of issues facing young disabled people
• Understanding of data protection and confidentiality and how it applies to the mentoring programme

Skill Requirements:
• Experience working with young people
• Demonstrated relevant experience in education, social work, or related field
• Well organized and efficient
• Reliable and punctual
• Effective written and oral communications
• Basic competence in office technology (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, email, etc.)
• Comfortable with Social Media
• Positive, motivated and optimistic attitude to work
• Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; and
• Demonstrated creativity, flexibility and comfort in working with diverse populations.
