Campfire fun at LOOKFest

Event: Join us at the next Parent Support Group meeting: 4th September, 7.30pm

Our next Parent Support Group meet is on Monday September 4th at 7.30pm.

These peer-led sessions are for any parent carer living with visual impairment.

If you haven’t joined before, please do! Dads are welcome too! We love to welcome new people and it’s a safe, positive space to share and learn. Please note that we are changing the day we meet from Tuesdays to Mondays. This follows a discussion with our parent carer steering group and is effective from August.

Note the change of day for future sessions. From August onwards the Parent Support Group will meet on Mondays.

TODAY! Monday 18th September, 7.30pm – Panel Session on Access to Music

Latest time to sign up is 5pm today.

Music can be a lifeline for blind and partially sighted children. We know that for some children, learning to play an instrument or to sing can add immeasurably to their lives. It can break down barriers, promote social inclusion and help to fulfil their potential as individuals. We also know however that it can be a challenge to access to Braille or large print music, find teachers with the right knowledge and skills, as well as opportunities to play with others.

Our online panel event on Monday 18th September will bring together Victoria Ward from New College Worcester, musical LOOK mentors, our charity partner Amber Trust, plus a mother whose child has found their purpose and joy in life through music. One of the LOOK Mentors who will be joining us a a blind music graduate who now teaches music. She will be talking about her music education and her current job. The other Mentor is a talented musician who enjoys music in his spare time. He is going to talk through apps he uses to access music as a partially sighted musician.

We will also enjoy a pre-recorded piano recital by the pianist, Rachel Starritt who was born blind. She recently graduated with Distinction in a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and is currently working with Live Music Now sharing and including others in music through work in schools and care homes.

Join us for an inspiring session which will address the issues as well as showing what is possible. We hope everyone will find this a very positive session, with lots of ideas of how to support and encourage our VI children and young people to participate in music.

To book and ask questions in advance please fill in this short form. The Zoom link will be sent to you after you register.
