We know how challenging it can be for parents and carers to help their visually impaired children enjoy gaming safely. It can feel overwhelming figuring out which games are accessible, how to set up controls, or how to manage chat and spending safely. Many families have told us how confusing it can be to get started, work out which tools are accessible and keep their children safe whilst having fun.

This session is designed to make it easier. We’ll give you clear, practical steps you can use at home and show you what has worked for other families, so your child can enjoy gaming safely and confidently.

Elin Williams – LOOK Events Manager

I am the Events Manager at LOOK; I began as a volunteer mentor sharing my lived experience of VI with others. I am registered blind due to a condition called Lebers Congenital Amaurosis and Nystagmus. I’m a Braille and screen reader user and have just light perception now.

I grew up with sighted parents, siblings and wider family, but now at home, I live with my husband, who is also blind, my guide dog and our chaotic cat.

Meet the Guest Speakers

Mathew Allcock – The Wobbly Gamer

Mathew is a visually impaired gamer, content creator and accessibility consultant. He has spoken to families and professionals across the UK about how accessible gaming can help visually impaired young people take part in play, leisure and community.

Mathew brings his lived experience to the session, sharing practical guidance, insights, and strategies for making gaming accessible, enjoyable, and safe for visually impaired children.

Matthew recently teamed up with his podcast co-host and friend, Cameron, to host an epic 24-hour non-stop Gameathon! From gaming sessions to exciting competitions and giveaways, it was a marathon of fun, all to raise money for LOOK.

James Kyle – RNIB Community & Accessible Gaming Lead

James Kyle is a Community Connection Coordinator with the RNIB Scotland, where he supports people with sight loss to connect, socialise, and engage with accessible gaming. He plays a lead role in running RNIB’s Visually Impaired Gaming Group, an online community that brings together blind and partially sighted gamers from across Scotland, Northern Ireland and beyond to share experiences, build friendships and advocate for greater accessibility in mainstream games and platforms.

At RNIB, James champions inclusion in play and digital leisure, helping to create a safe, welcoming space where people of all gaming experience levels can enjoy video games together. Under his coordination, the gaming group has become a valued hub for peer support, community connection and practical exploration of accessibility features — from menu narration and high-contrast UI settings to scalable interfaces and audio support — and has contributed to awareness and dialogue between players and the wider gaming industry.

James speaks from lived experience and community leadership, combining a deep personal passion for gaming with a clear focus on empowering others to take part confidently and safely. His work highlights how digital inclusion and accessible design within play can foster independence, social connection and participation for people with sight loss and other access needs.
