At LOOK we like to celebrate and we love community. LOOK prides itself on being a
community of visually impaired young people, their families and volunteer mentors. The
people we support are at the heart of why LOOK exists and thrives, enabling visually
impaired young people and families to attend activities and reach goals which could be seen
as impossible to achieve. From running our VI accessible festival known as LOOKFest, to
training a mentor who can reassure a young person that they are not alone in living with a
visual impairment, LOOK has built a community that supports one another through the
challenges and successes.

In order to keep the LOOK community thriving, we have many different ways to raise money
to keep doing the things that we do. One way to support us is the London marathon. This
year, it will be taking place on Sunday 21 April.

Training for 21 April
With the 2024 London Marathon fast approaching, there are 28 runners out there training
and working hard, all with the goal to run 26.2 miles to raise money for visually impaired young people and their families to thrive. Five of those running for LOOK are from one Birmingham based club – The Sunday Running Club based in Sutton Coldfield. The Sunday Running Club was started by Grant Dempsey who wanted to bring a group of friends together with the aim to work on their fitness to play football. By the second week, the group had risen to 18 runners eagerly running at 9am! The Sunday Running Club continues to grow, building a community who support each other to keep fit and meet their goals. Everyone is welcome, no matter what level of fitness.

Sunday Runner founder Grant says, “SRC encourages me to stay active, productive and accountable to provide an inclusive and fun environment for our members. I’m proud of how diverse SRC is, runners or all ages and abilities are welcome. We run everyday, no excuses, alongside running we organise and host regular social events such as our popular family fun days.”

It’s not about the running, it’s so much more
Now, the club runs a wide range of activities for all members of any ability, wishing to be part
of a community to reach their goals. Whether that is to have a day out with the family, or to
run for a Marathon, the Sunday running Club has built a community where anyone and
everyone is welcome with have the chance to thrive with their fitness. To find out more visit the Sunday Running Club home page here.
