Jamie’s Farm, in partnership with LOOK, gives young people like you the chance to learn new skills, care for animals, cook, explore, and make friends who truly understand you.

LOOK is heading to Jamie’s Farm in Hereford for five days from the 27th to the 31st of July 2026! Step out of your comfort zone – learn, grow, and make friends for life.

What Makes Jamie’s Farm Special

This is not just a trip, it’s a hands-on adventure that stays with you.

On the farm, you can:

  • Feed and groom animals – stroke a lamb, brush a pony, collect fresh eggs from the hen house.
  • Cook real meals with your group – bake bread, chop vegetables, and taste the dishes you’ve made together.
  • Harvest fruit & vegetables – Sow seeds, dig for potatoes, and pick juicy tomatoes straight from the vine, all to be used in the delicious meals you make as a group.
  • Explore the countryside safely – guided walks through fields and woods, discovering wildlife and enjoying the fresh air.
  • Learn teamwork and leadership – every activity is done together, helping you learn new skills with confidence.

The whole week is a hands-on experience of life on a working farm. You’ll be part of the team, helping with the daily jobs that keep the farm running like clockwork.

Your Support Team

We make sure every young person is supported throughout their week at Jamie’s Farm. Here’s your incredible support team, who will be with you all weekend:

  • LOOK mentors – Blind and partially sighted young adults who understand the challenges and the worries that can come with trying new things.
  • Jamie’s Farm staff – trained in both safety and fun, so you can explore without worry.
  • Peer support – other young people just like you, sharing experiences and encouragement.

LOOK’s fantastic, friendly team of visually impaired volunteer mentors will be by your side throughout the week of activities, ready to support you and share their own lived experiences.

How the Week Works

Arrival: You’ll be welcomed by staff and mentors, shown your room, and meet your group.

A Day in the Life

  • Morning – farm chores, animal care, and gardening
  • Afternoon – cooking, creative activities, or countryside walks
  • Evening – games, storytelling, or campfire chats

The ideal Jamie’s Farmer with LOOK is:

  • A visually impaired young person who is involved with LOOK.
  • Aged 13 – 17 at the time of the activity.
  • Able to manage their personal care independently.
  • Has a good level of physical mobility, i.e. able to manage long walks on uneven terrain, does not require the use of a wheelchair.
  • Does not present a danger to themselves or others.

Costs

The cost of our Youth Activity Week has been heavily subsidised by the charity and is offered to you at £200. With just 8 spaces available, we are anticipating an enthusiastic response, so please read on before applying.

If you are offered a place on our Jamie’s Farm Activity Week, you will need to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit by the 4th May. The remaining balance of £100 will be due on 15th June 2026.

Your contribution covers your accommodation, all food during the stay and all organised activities.

We have priced this event in line with our standard pricing policy, which is to offer any event at 25% of the cost per person to the charity. Given the costs, it is vital that you inform us if you’re unable to accept your place so that it can be offered to another young person on the waiting list.

More information

  • Due to limited availability, completion of the application form does not guarantee you a place on this trip.
  • Guide and assistance dogs are permitted at Jamie’s Farm but require consideration in relation to other animals on site.
  • Personal electronic devices, e.g. phones, tablets, smart watches, are not permitted on site at Jamie’s Farm, except for devices required for health reasons.
  • A WhatsApp group will be created for parents/carers to receive updates and photos from LOOK staff during the activity.
  • Any food and drink brought in from off-site is not permitted at Jamie’s Farm.
  • Jamie’s Farm is a non-smoking site, including vaping.
