Parent carers face an increased risk of mental and physical health problems. Often prioritising the well-being of their children and neglecting their own needs. The Healthy Parent Carers programme is focused on improving the physical and mental health of parent carers by promoting empowerment, confidence, and resilience.
“It was really helpful not to feel so alone on our journey and speak to people that are in a similar boat to ourselves.” Parent carer
The programme has been inspired and developed by parent carers working within the University of Exeter Medical School. The ‘small steps’ approach enables participants to feel in control and able to think outside of their caring duties in an encouraging and fun way. Participants create a new community of support and develop strategies to deal with the challenges that being a parent carer brings.
We want to give you the time and space to take stock, reassess and develop a toolkit that will support your mental well-being now and in the future.
“All parent carers deserve to give themselves the time for this course. If you commit to the course it supports you in improving physical and mental health to better meet the demands of being a parent.” Parent carer
