Role: Communications Assistant Intern

Department: Communications

Location: Hybrid – office, home working and occasional events and location work

Salary: Based on the Real Living Wage

Job Specification Information

To assist with the delivery of a specific Youth Voice project, and to assist with general LOOK communications output.

Key areas of responsibility

The communications assistant will assist with the following:

  • Recruitment of a small team of youth media volunteers
  • Organise relevant training for this volunteer group (most likely in interviewing and storytelling skills).
  • Recording a series of events and discussions around specific topics decided by our steering group for the media suite
  • Editing and presenting content for various formats, including social media and longer-format resources (probably podcast style).
  • The role will also include some general assistance with LOOK’s core comms, creating the newsletter and regular social media posting.

Personal specification – Essential criteria:

This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010.

  • Willingness to travel to the TPT Hub in London for intern development events throughout the course of the internship programme (costs covered by TPT).
  • Having not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.
  • Demonstrable interest in communications, public relations and content creation
  • Experience (paid or voluntary) using social media platforms (e.g., X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok).
  • Basic understanding of content creation (text, images, or video).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks or priorities.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, Google suites and basic editing and design tools (e.g. Canva or similar).
  • Able to work independently and take initiative within a small team environment.
