Alice

Hi I am Alice. I am 22 years old, and I am currently studying A level Mathematics and A level Psychology at College. In my spare time, I love to sing, listen to music and have recently started singing with my local choir.

I have always had a huge passion for helping others. This is one of the many reasons that I decided to train as a Mentor for Look UK. From the moment that I lost my sight at the age of 15, I instinctively knew that I had ambitions to help other young people experiencing sight loss. I always wished that I had had the opportunity to receive the support of a mentor when losing my sight.

Since I started mentoring in March this year I have loved every moment of being a Mentor and taking part in talks for Look Uk. I am currently mentoring two amazing young people. I feel that we have built strong, friendly, and meaningful connections. I always look forward to hearing from them, encouraging them and sharing experiences and giving advice.

A sense of purpose

One of my greatest achievements is becoming a Mentor for Look UK. It has been a dream come true to know that I am making a difference to other peoples lives. Mentoring has given me a sense of purpose and a feeling of belonging. I encourage anyone to become a Mentor as its been the best thing that I have ever done. I have benefitted in so many ways as it has boosted my confidence and I have grown as a person.

Top tip!

My mentoring top tip is that communication is key not only with your mentee but with the team at Look UK. Just enjoy every minute.

Thank you to all the friendly team at Look UK for your continuous support and for letting me be part of the Mentoring Squad.

LOOK provides a free, tailored peer-mentoring service that connects VI young people with a trained VI mentor to offer advice, support and guidance on subjects such as school, Further & Higher Education, careers, opportunities and independent living, based on the mentor’s own experiences.
