Walk, jog, run or go for a stroll, every mile you move will help us keep on mentoring for miles!

About the Miles for Mentoring summer challenge

LOOK is a charity and our services are offered free of charge. We are reliant on funds from the public to keep going. This is where you come in. Whether you or your family have been helped by LOOK, you volunteer for us, or you are completely new to our community, we would love you to get involved in our summer fundraising challenge.

Set yourself a target distance. Base this on what feels comfortable and achievable for you.

You can take part at any location you like, at any time, and at any pace. You could jog on a treadmill, go on long hikes, do a daily mile, stroll some laps of your favourite park, or a blend of whatever works best for you, to reach your target distance.

You can buddy up with other members of the LOOK community, you can walk with friends, family and colleagues, or you can go solo – it’s up to you. We are with you every step of the way!

Set your own pace and get your feet moving to help us clock up MilesForMentoring!

Spread the word!

Let your friends and family know all about what you’re doing for LOOK and why you’re doing it. Be bold! Ask them to sponsor you and direct them to your fundraising page and QR code.

If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be DOUBLED by your employer. This means your #MilesforMentoring goes TWICE as far!!

It’s not just big banks and corporations that offer match funding. Many smaller businesses like to give to charity too. Let your boss or HR Department know about what you are doing for LOOK and ask them if they would like to support you. It is usually a very simple process, and the results can be transformational! Please find a suggested match funding template letter to your employer HERE.

Keep us in the loop!

Please let us know how your challenge is progressing, so we can all celebrate your successes and cheer you on! Send your photos and messages to info@look-uk.org.

Remember to tag your photos and social media posts with the hashtag #MilesForMentoring.

Get moving!

Log your distance on your fundraising page and share your progress as you clock up the miles.

You can track your miles by using:

  • The step counter on your phone using Apple Health or Google Fit
  • A fitness watch e.g. apple Watch or FitBit
  • Apps like Pedometer++, Strava or MapMyRun
  • Keep your own log by mapping your routes and keeping a record

Congratulate yourself!

By taking part and raising money for LOOK you have helped LOOK empower visually impaired young people and their families to thrive! Together we can make a brighter world for everyone!

“I became a mentor because I don’t want other young people to experience the hard times I had as a child. I still face challenges of my own, but there have been plenty of amazing experiences too. I want young VI people to know they are incredible and have so much to give. Sharing what I’ve learned in life with my mentee allows me to give something back and help make a better world. Volunteering for LOOK has grown my leadership skills and boosted my CV. I am so proud to be part of a community that puts trust in disabled people to drive change.” LOOK Mentor
