Experience: Overcoming train travel anxiety

A visually impaired young people shares their experience of severe anxiety around train travel and how they overcame it.

Watch this short video by a visually impaired young person on their experience of overcoming anxiety about train travel.

Sydney May, LOOK Mentor Project Officer, shares candidly about her experience of severe anxiety around train travel as a visually impaired young person and how she overcame this.

Sydney is a great communicator and we hope her story and hacks will help you as a visually impaired young person or parent carer / QTVI supporting a VIP.

Watch the video below:

The featured photos in this post shows Mentor Ellie on a train returning from LOOK’s outdoor adventure week at Jamie’s Farm. Organised by and for visually impaired young people, part of the experience is travel from different locations in the UK to the farm in rural Herefordshire. Many VI young people depend on train travel to get around, and finding ways to cope with anxiety around train travel is vital for being independent. Thanks so much to Sydney for sharing her experience and we hope what she says in this video will be helpful for others who struggle with anxiety and stress around train travel.

The other featured photo is of Mentor Sam on a tube in London. He has his blue cane and backpack and is in a priority seat near the doors, with no other passengers either side of him.
