We are specifically recruiting mentors who are currently in higher education or who have graduated within the past two years to support our newly developed University Mentoring programme.
University Mentoring follows a six-month mentoring partnership, pairing mentees who are either in their last year of sixth-form or their first year of university with a Mentor who is a current student or graduate who can offer specific guidance and advice around the pathway into higher education.
As the University Mentor you will be in touch with your mentee weekly through written messages on our secure mentoring platform, and monthly scheduled group Zoom calls. You will be supported with plentiful resources to support your conversation, regular check-ins with our Student Mentoring Project Officer, and mentor supervision sessions.
The first cohort of mentoring partnerships following this programme will begin in Autumn 2023.
University Mentor training takes place at a residential on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September at the University of Warwick (accommodation and food provided, travel reimbursed).
Mentor training covers all aspects of volunteering as a LOOK Mentor including:
- Using the Brightside mentoring platform
- Communication skills and managing challenging conversations
- Safeguarding awareness

Mentor training is also an excellent opportunity for making new connections within the VI community with your fellow volunteer Mentors, and discovering how you can get involved with other LOOK opportunities.
