Position: Mentor Project Officer (Maternity Cover)

Start Date: 1st September 2025

Contract: 3 days/week (flexible working), Fixed term, 12 months with possible extension

Salary: £24,760 FTE (£14857.00 take home salary)

LOOK is dedicated to supporting visually impaired (VI) young people and their families. We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Mentor Project Officer to cover maternity leave.

The LOOK online mentoring programme connects visually impaired young people with a more experienced visually impaired mentor. The project is structured and heavily supported by LOOK staff. The Mentor Project Officer will support all aspects of the mentoring programme as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to new enquiries from families about LOOK’s work via phone and email, and make accurate notes relating to these calls.
  • Monitor and support the online mentoring platform, assisting mentors in advancing their mentoring conversations and supporting live chats (e.g., on Zoom).
  • Provide support to mentors and mentees involved in the mentoring project.
  • Collaborate with the wider mentoring team to train new volunteer mentors, including conducting reference and DBS checks, and sharing feedback with the mentoring project team.
  • Work with the team to evaluate and monitor the impact of the project, and regularly report on findings.
  • Create information and resources for families and young people on a range of topics as required.
  • Develop learning resources and content for workshops in collaboration with the LOOK team.
  • Support mentor learning and development (L&D) and reflections.
  • Take an active role in shaping and developing the project in response to needs.
  • Host and facilitate online events as required.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to the relevant team member.
  • Report on common themes and topics emerging in mentoring conversations to the wider team.
  • Engage with parents, carers, and young people for face-to-face support and group activities as required.
  • Collaborate with other organisations, partners, and stakeholders to develop the project and create new opportunities for VI young people.
  • Write reports and contribute to LOOK’s communications output as required.
  • Participate in all of LOOK’s wider projects and events, both face-to-face and online, as required.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications/Experience: Relevant qualifications or lived experience in mentoring, education, social work, or a related field is desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in using online platforms and tools.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
    • Ability to manage own time and workload.
